Roofing
One of the most important parts of your home is your roof. Your roof protects you and your home from the outside elements. It's inevitable that the day will come when it's time to replace your roof. Like most homeowners, you will want to put this off as long as possible. However, delaying roof replacement is never a good idea. It can result in damaged ceilings and possibly rotted rafters. If you have noticed asphalt granules around your downspouts, or shingles that appear to be “curling”, it may be time for a new roof.

Most Residential shingles are asphalt.
Asphalt based shingles account for more than 80% of all residential roofing.One of the most important aspects of shingles is the strength of the reinforcing mat and the quality of the asphalt. Asphalt shingles differ mostly by the matting used. Fiberglass reinforced matted shingles are superior due to the tensile strength. They are very difficult to tear and hold up to the weather extremely well.
Parts of a roof system:
1. Leak barrier or ice and water shield. This part of the roofing system is extremely important because it forms a watertight seal at all important roof junctions. We install the ice and water shield a minimum of 3 feet up your roofline from the edge of the roof at gutters and eaves. We also install it in the valleys, any place where two roofing sections come together, around the chimney, and around any penetration through the roof such as skylights and attic fans and vents.It is very important to replace your roof before it develops leaks. 2. Underlayment, more commonly known as tar or felt paper is installed on all roof decking. Recent technological advances have resulted in greater strength and increased breathe-ability.
3. Starter strips. metal starter strips that are specifically manufactured to be installed at the edges of your roofline will prevent the possibility of wind and water intrusion under the shingles.
4. Shingles, should have a third party endorsement such as the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.
5. Attic Ventilation - Proper ventilation is very important to increasing the longevity of the roofing system. Proper ventilation provides longevity to your wood decking and every other roofing component. Proper ventilation is important to provide for a healthy home. It helps prevent mold and mildew from forming in the attic and in reducing the temperature in your attic. Increasing your homes comfort.
6. Shingle caps. This is a specially designed shingle that is manufactured specifically for different grade of shingles. It covers the peaks of your roof, enhances the roof's look and validates the system's warranty.
7. The Warranty is only as good as the company behind it. BDC offers labor warranties up to 10 years in addition to the manufacturers warranties which can be as long as the life of your home.
